Friends of CTWC

Friends of CTWC is a non-profit organization that has been organized for the primary purpose of helping to guide efforts and raise funds to help address water needs and issues of the Lower Colorado River Basin.

Why are there TWO organizations?

Unlike Central Texas Water Coalition, Friends of CTWC is structured as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, which means donations are tax deductible.

Members of the Board of Directors for Friends of CTWC, along with members of the CTWC Board of Directors, participated as stakeholders in formation of the new Water Management Plan approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in November 2015.

What does fundraising support?

Here are some broad-based examples of potential educational outreach and research activities that Friends of CTWC supports.

  • Hydrology studies of the Colorado River Basin to better understand baselines and relationships for factors such as rainfall/inflows, firm and interruptible demands and siltation impacts and their effects on critical lake levels and associated water management plans
  • Developing information and education studies, legal research, and reports that support effective water management plans, practices and regulations for the region with governmental agencies such as TCEQ,  LCRA and TWDB
  • Development and support of conservation policies needed to affect more effective and efficient uses of available water supplies
  • Supporting the need for the development of new water sources and use guidelines that are supportive of the current and future water needs and conservation plans of the region and State of Texas
  • Development and distribution of supportive educational and outreach materials and events

Donations to Friends of CTWC from the public and from area businesses support education and research activities of water-focused organizations, such as CTWC. We need your help in supporting the preservation of the Highland Lakes’ role as an irreplaceable natural resource in the Texas, and in securing our water supply.
